Now, what about those "exception" satellites? It turns out that the Drake engineers took the oddball satellites they knew about and wired in special logic to deal with them. For all SBS satellites (except SBS-5, which has a unique transponder layout) they split the Ku spectrum into 20 channels. They were certainly at liberty to choose any correspondence between frequency and channel number they wanted. Furthermore, the 500MHz band is split among only 6 transponders. However, each is double width (72 MHz) and sometimes material is split two channels to a transponder. The Drake assigns 12 channel slots to these satellites. If you assume that the 12 frequences are evenly distributed over the C-band, you get a scheme which seems to account for everything. -12 Channel Satellites - SpaceNet 1 SpaceNet 3R Drake Ref. Ahhh - you are frustrated too! The simple matter is that you CAN NOT view all the transponders on either G7 or G4 on the 1524 with it's odd/even polarity format. You can program it to see most of the transponders, but you have to flip the polarity to see the others So, I scan thru all 32 channels, flip the polarity, and then scan them again. Not pretty. This has allways bugged me about Drake KU - You can not set the polarity on a channel by channel basis. Here is the chart I posted a few weeks back. The offset (if any) is listed next to the Transponder number. Any satellites not named in a known format will get the default format. Note that the latest ROMs do not have T401 - but it looks like the default format will handle it pretty well. At least I can tune all the PBS feeds w/o flipping polarity!
